OCLNN partners with long-time PBS station KOCE
Thursday, March 18, 2010
One of Orange County’s newest online journalism providers and OC’s long-time PBS television station have announced a media partnership for increased local news coverage.
Orange County Local News Network, part of USLNN’s network of hyper-local online news sites, has taken as a media partner, the county’s local broadcast news voice, KOCE-TV. The goal is to deliver, via OCLNN.com, local breaking news, events, sports and information for residents throughout the county.
Under the terms of the agreement, OCLNN journalists will create content that will be broadcast on KOCE’s Real Orange news program and the 24/7 digital OC Channel. Selected KOCE-produced content will be accessible at OCLNN.com. OCLNN and KOCE will also work together on projects impacting Orange County.
“Our goal is to create one Orange County community, and we believe OCLNN’s vibrant news and information website is a key part of bringing our diverse county together,” Mel Rogers, CEO of KOCE-TV said. “We are impressed with the product, the vision and the curious, optimistic approach that is part of the OCLNN ethos.”
KOCE board member Doug Wilson said the board approved the partnership “because we believe it will help the station take an important step forward in linking broadcast journalism to website journalism. KOCE is ramping up its news coverage of the county and in the next few years many more people will be watching KOCE for their evening local news.”
The announcement speaks to USLNN’s larger initiative of working with strategic partners in each market as it rolls out other local news and information sites utilizing its proprietary technology and business model. The company’s first three sites are in San Diego (SDNN.com), Orange County (OCLNN.com), and Southwest Riverside (SWRNN.com). In OC, the company is also working with the Times Community Newspapers including the Daily Pilot, Huntington Beach Independent and the Coastline Pilot.
“The more communities where we launch sites, the more we’re convinced that our model is the future of local news,” said Chris Jennewein, President of USLNN. “We’re bringing together strong local editorial talent and credible local content providers using a proprietary technology platform to offer readers timely information that they care about. We’re also building unique local audiences for advertisers. The KOCE partnership is an important step to executing this strategy, and we expect great things from it.”
